Commitment to Write: Day 20 February 2019

Life Is Short. Do What Makes Sense!

A story was shared with me many years ago in this way: Every year at Christmas, we gathered for a lovely ham dinner. Grandma, my Mom and I did the same thing.every year. We cut the ends of the ham off before preparing it for the oven. I thought it was a strange thing to do, but figured there must be some good reason. We shrugged our shoulders and passed the instructions down to our children. One day a trouble-maker, great-great-grandchild decided to research why the ends of the ham were cut off. Do you know the answer? Well, it turns out, in the early days, the ovens were too small for such a large ham.The ends had to be cut off. Year after year a foolish tradition was followed, teaching That’s the way it has always been.

Are there things we do that make no sense, but that’s how it’s always been?

When I was a young woman, I loved this song, and asked myself,

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
....  When will they ever learn!
When will they ever learn!

Now I am in a new phase of my life, the question still remains.

Today’s answer for me is to bravely listen to the drum I hear and beat it in plain view. This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine! For me, living on earth has a beginning, middle and end, a play of sorts. The progression of the play does not wait until I feel like participating. It is now. What is important to me today. This is the rule I wish to live by.

Every person living on this planet has the opportunity to live as fully as they wish today!

The lesson of the song I loved so much: Learn from your experiences. You can’t live and satisfy someone else’s truth. When actions don’t make sense, feel uncomfortable, off, don’t act. Be happy by improving your feelings toward a positive attitude. STOP when you feel uncomfortable. Look around and find something that feels far better than you are feeling now. And, not for someone else. For you! Be good to yourself! Every moment in life is available just for you! Have a great day!
